After being nominated by Scotwest Credit Union member Anita McKean, Cowal Elderly Befrienders  has been awarded £400 by Scotwest Credit Union as part of our 25th Anniversary Community Awards.

The group provides a range of services designed to improve quality of life, reduce isolation and loneliness and keep older people independent and active for as long as possible in the communities they helped create.

Being presented with their award, Robin Miller, the group’s Project Co-ordinator said “Being awarded has been such a surprise! The funds will help in developing services that encourage creativity in older people – this has been piloted in our original song and video for ‘Raining in Dunoon’ involving elderly and younger members of the community which is available on Itunes and Spotify. Our short film of the song has received 5000 views on youtube already and can be viewed by searching for Raining in Dunoon Cowal Elderly Befrienders. ”

Scotwest CEO Kenny MacLeod said “The work that Cowal Elderly Befrienders do for the older people in their community is an inspiration and we are delighted to be able to help support such a vital resource. I would like to thank our member Anita for taking the time to nominate the group.”
