Barry is currently Head of Residential Land for a boutique home builder based in Glasgow and has worked in the development industry, both public and private, for over 17 years. He has been a member of Scotwest since 2017. Barry is also a serving Councillor in East Ayrshire, sitting on a number of committees including as Chair of the Governance and Scrutiny Committee. Prior to this, he served as a Councillor in South Lanarkshire between 2007 and 2012.
Barry’s commitment to the co-operative movement, as well as his wealth of experience in committee settings as an elected official, stand him in good stead to be an asset to the Scotwest Board of Directors and as a hard-working representative of the wider membership.
Why did you want to serve as a Director?
“I put myself forward to be a director as I have a keen interest in the co-operative movement and ethical finance. With my experience as a committee chair and Councillor, representing the people and communities where I live, I felt these attributes could be of benefit to Scotwest.”
What did you hope to gain personally from taking up this position?
“A greater understanding of the financial services sector and how the credit union works for the benefit of all members”
